02/03/24 – Ripon

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Laund Hill for the latest fixture in this season’s league programme.

An especially warm welcome to our opponents today from Mallorie Park; Ripon RUFC. It was founded in 1886, a mere 1200 years after the city’s founding. What took them?

Their officials, players and spectators are welcome to join us for what we hope will be a keenly contested game of fast-flowing rugby.

When we visited them in November they came out on top 19 -18 in a close-fought encounter that we could have won. They have an extremely good home record and away from home, they have the meanest defence in the league conceding just 146 points in their 18 matches. Ripon will be well rested having had no game last weekend and HLH will be looking to improve on the performance against Baildon by being better disciplined and concentrating for the full 80 minutes.

Also at home today are our senior Men’s Second XV, The Mighty Ducks, who also suffered defeat at Ripon in November by 13 points to 12. Indeed, the team have been undefeated since that day and will be looking for revenge coming off the back of 5 straight wins

Keep your fingers crossed for a dry and sunny afternoon. Regular patrons will know it’s seldom warm out on the field at Laund Hill Stadium but that there is always a warm rugby welcome in the bar for players, spectators, match officials, past players and anyone else who wants to enjoy a drink and discuss the sport of rugby union.

Great strides have been taken over the last 2 years towards securing a bright future for Huddersfield Laund Hill with the mini section being invigorated by a team of determined and committed volunteers who have worked tirelessly to recruit a huge number of new members who will grow with the club and have their own set of memories to treasure in the coming years both on and off the field.

Good luck to everyone taking to the field this weekend in Laund Hill colours.

We look forward to seeing our senior Roses XV in action again on Sunday following on from a busy schedule of mini and junior fixtures in the morning

Senior Roses XV vs Gainsborough 2.15 ko

The Under 6 – Under 11 ages are mixed teams

Why not get yourself down to the Laund Hill on Sunday morning to blow the cobwebs away, enjoy fresh food and beverages from Kitson’s Table and watch the future of your club develop whilst giving the youngsters your support. They all play with smiles on their faces and have a great time while learning valuable lessons for life from our sport’s core values

Talking of DISCIPLINE…..

Also welcome today is/are the match official(s), without whom, we wouldn’t be playing at all.

Everyone is asked to give them their full support and to have a chat with them in the bar after the match if they have something to discuss with them. The match officials are also here to enjoy their rugby and often travel many miles to ensure that we have a game each week. I’m sure they welcome your congratulations and will happily discuss any salient points over a beer or two, especially if you are paying!

Huddersfield Laund Hill RUFC is a community club and is striving to provide an opportunity for everyone in the community to enjoy their rugby in whatever capacity they can manage whether it be playing, volunteering, taking on a role of responsibility, bringing along their children or simply turning up to support our players.

Your club is always desperately short of volunteers so if you can spare an hour or two each week, why not get in touch with the club volunteer co-ordinator, Sean Barrett. He can be contacted by mailing seanbarrett26@outlook.com and give something back to the club which may well have provided you with years of enjoyment on or off the field
