Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Laund Hill for the latest of the return fixtures in this season’s league programme.
An especially warm welcome to our opponents today from The Memorial Ground, Roundhay in Leeds; Roundhegians Rugby Football Club. Another club fast heading towards their centenary season in 2028.
Their officials, players and spectators are very welcome to join us for what we hope will be a keenly contested game of fast flowing rugby.
When we visited them in October they came out on top 31 – 30 thanks to some enterprising play from their young back line. ‘Hegians today field 14 home grown players, one of whom: Tight Head Prop Matijevic, has international honours.
Let’s hope we aren’t so generous this time out. We gave away needless points later on in that game. Both sides suffered reversals last time out and will be keen to get back to winning ways today.
Keep your fingers crossed for a dry and sunny afternoon. Regular patrons will know it’s seldom warm out on the field at Laund Hill Stadium but that there is always a warm rugby welcome in the bar for players, spectators, match officials, past players and anyone else who wants to enjoy a drink and discuss the sport of rugby union.
Great strides have been taken over the last 2 years towards securing a bright future for Huddersfield Laund Hill with the mini section being invigorated by a team of determined and committed volunteers who have worked tirelessly to recruit a huge number of new members who will grow with the club and have their own set of memories to treasure in the coming years both on and off the field.
Good luck to everyone taking to the field this weekend in Laund Hill colours. The senior men’s Second XV have a break as ‘hegians are unable to field a side to travel and despite great efforts to secure a meaningful match, no-one was prepared to face The Mighty Ducks!
We also look forward to seeing our senior Roses XV in action again on February 11th when they entertain Glossop women. Everyone is keen to see them make further progress this season. They have a great attitude to their rugby and numbers are on the increase at their well structured training sessions.
This weekend our Minis and Juniors are….
Under 12 Girls are training
Under 11 v Training
Under 10 v Pontefract (development game) @ 11.00 am
Under 6 (Monster Minis)
Under 6s to Under 9s are training this week
The Under 6 – Under 11 ages are mixed teams
Why not get yourself down to the Laund Hill on Sunday morning to blow the cobwebs away, enjoy fresh food and beverages from Kitson’s Table and watch the future of your club develop whilst giving the youngsters your support. They all play with smiles on their faces and have a great time while learning valuable lessons for life from our sport’s core values
TEAMWORK RESPECT ENJOYMENT DISCIPLINE AND SPORTSMANSHIP
Talking of DISCIPLINE…..
Also welcome today is/are the match official(s), without whom, we wouldn’t be playing at all.
Everyone is asked to give them their full support and to have a chat with them in the bar after the match if they have something to discuss with them. The match officials are also here to enjoy their rugby and often travel many miles to ensure that we have a game each week. I’m sure they welcome your congratulations and will happily discuss any salient points over a beer or two, especially if you are paying!
Huddersfield Laund Hill RUFC is a community club and is striving to provide an opportunity for everyone in the community to enjoy their rugby in whatever capacity they can manage whether it be playing, volunteering, taking on a role of responsibility, bringing along their children or simply turning up to support our players.
Your club is always desperately short of volunteers so if you can spare an hour or two each week, why not get in touch with the club volunteer co-ordinator, Sean Barrett. He can be contacted by mailing firstname.lastname@example.org and give something back to the club which may well have provided you with years of enjoyment on or off the field
