Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Laund Hill for the latest fixture of the Men’s senior First XV league season 2023-24
Our first venture into Yorkshire 2 for some years. A division that has, in the past, seen us launch several successful campaigns into league and knockout rugby. Everyone at the club; from the Monster Minis upwards, is geared up towards an enjoyable season
An especially warm welcome today to our visitors from Lodge Lane, Dinnington Rugby Football Club. They are sure to provide a stern test today. Always a physically strong and determined opponent who play direct rugby, I am sure they will be keen to return to Yorkshire 1 for next season
Alistair “Ali” Leitch
Our thoughts are also with everyone from Dinnington today in mourning the recent sad loss loss of Alistair “Ali” Leitch.
Alistair sadly passed away Monday 28th August after a long illness.
Not only a parent of 2 current senior players; Mike and Steven, but also membership secretary, former club manager and stalwart of the club for many years.
He will be greatly missed in all areas.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family.
Their officials, players and spectators are very welcome to join us for what we hope will be a keenly contested game of fast flowing rugby. Dinnington were in Yorkshire 2 with us last season and will be keen to test themselves today given that we did the double over them in the league winning 18- 33 at Lodge Lane in October 2022 and 31 – 27 at Laund Hill in March 2023
Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a dry and sunny afternoon. Regular patrons will know it’s seldom warm out on the field at Laund Hill Stadium but that there is always a warm
rugby welcome in the bar for players, spectators, match officials, past players and anyone else who wants to enjoy a drink and discuss the sport of rugby union.
Great strides have been taken over the last 2 years towards securing a bright future for Huddersfield Laund Hill with the mini section being invigorated by a team of determined and committed volunteers who have worked tirelessly to recruit a huge number of new members who will grow with the club and have their own set of memories to treasure in the coming years both on and off the field.
Good luck to everyone taking to the field this weekend in Laund Hill colours, especially the minis tomorrow. We especially look forward to seeing our senior Roses XV in action again after a good performance at home to Old Crossleyans last Sunday and to seeing them make further progress this season. They have a great attitude to their rugby and numbers are on the increase at their well structured training sessions
Also welcome today is/are the match official(s), without whom, we wouldn’t be playing at all.
Everyone is asked to give them their full support and to have a chat with them in the bar after the match if they have something to discuss with them. The match officials are also here to enjoy their rugby and often travel many miles to ensure that we have a game each week. I’m sure they welcome your congratulations and will happily discuss any salient points over a beer or two, especially if you are paying!
Huddersfield Laund Hill RUFC is a community club and is striving to provide an opportunity for everyone in the community to enjoy their rugby in whatever capacity they can manage whether it be playing, volunteering, taking on a role of responsibility, bringing along their children or simply turning up to support our players.
Your club is always desperately short of volunteers so if you can spare an hour or two each week, why not get in touch with the club volunteer co-ordinator, Sean Barrett. He can be contacted by mailing firstname.lastname@example.org and give something back to the club which may well have provided you with years of enjoyment on or off the field
