04/02/23 – Roundhegians

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Laund Hill as we work our way through the return fixtures now that we have passed the halfway point in the league. Our first season as Huddersfield Laund Hill RUFC started a new era for our club.

An especially warm welcome today to our visitors from The Memorial Ground, Roundhay. Roundhegians RFC.

Their officials, players and spectators are very welcome to join us for what we hope will be a keenly contested game of fast-flowing rugby. Roundhegians currently sit at the foot of our division after winning one and losing fourteen of their fixtures so far and have earned six bonus points. HLH lie just two places above ‘hegians having won four and lost nine of our fixtures.

Meanwhile, the rebuild at Laund Hill continues. I’m sure that retaining our place in this division has contributed towards the rebuild that has begun and where there is a more positive atmosphere week by week. If this afternoon’s match provides anything like the entertainment of the fixture at the Memorial Ground earlier in the season, then the spectators are in for a treat! HLH came away with a hard fought win, 34 – 42. Let’s hope we can give them a few things to think about this afternoon and put some more points between us and Dinnington who currently lie 11th in our division, ten points below us. ‘hegians first win of the season came only two weeks ago against their local rivals Leodiensians so I’m sure they will be keen to get a further victory today and get back to winning ways. Something which has eluded both our clubs this season.

Good luck to both teams and to Roundhegians for the rest of their season. I’m sure everyone looks forward to a keenly contested tussle today at Laund Hill played within the laws and spirit of the game we all love.

Also welcome today is/are the match official(s), without whom, we wouldn’t be playing at all.

Everyone is asked to give them their full support and to have a chat with them in the bar after the match if they have something to discuss with them. The match officials are also here to enjoy their rugby and often travel many miles to ensure that we have a game each week. I’m sure they welcome your congratulations and will happily discuss any salient points over a beer or two, especially if you are paying!

Huddersfield Laund Hill RUFC is a community club and is striving to provide an opportunity for everyone in the community to enjoy their rugby in whatever capacity they can manage whether it be playing, volunteering, taking on a role of responsibility, bringing along their children or simply turning up to support our players.

Your club is always desperately short of volunteers so if you can spare an hour or two each week, why not get in touch with the club volunteer co-ordinator, Sean Barrett. He can be contacted by mailing seanbarrett26@outlook.com and giving something back to the club which may well have provided you with years of enjoyment on or off the field
