Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Laund Hill as we work our way through the return fixtures now that we have passed the half way point in the league. Our first season as Huddersfield Laund Hill RUFC, the start of a new era for our club.
An especially warm welcome today to our visitors from Beaver Park, Beverley RUFC.
Their officials, players and spectators are very welcome to join us for what we hope will be a keenly contested game of fast-flowing rugby. Beverley sits fourth in our division after winning seven and drawing five of their fixtures so far and has earned eight bonus points. HLH lie ninth having won four and lost eight of their fixtures and with exactly the same number of bonus points as Beverley.
Meanwhile, the rebuild at Laund Hill continues. I’m sure that retaining our place in this division has contributed towards the rebuild that has begun at Laund Hill where there is a more positive atmosphere week by week. If this afternoon’s match provides anything like the entertainment of the fixture at Beverley earlier in the season, then the spectators are in for a treat! HLH raced into an early lead at Beaver Park with two tries by Oliver Lightfoot who was in tremendous form. Beverley fought back well and after a good deal of end to end rugby, HLH hung on to win by 36 38 on a beautiful sunny autumn afternoon in October. Let’s hope we can give them a few things to think about this afternoon and put some more points between us and West Leeds who currently lie 10th in our division, five points below us.
Good luck to both teams and to Beverley for the rest of their season. I’m sure everyone looks forward to a keenly contested tussle today at Laund Hill played within the laws and spirit of the game we all love.
Also welcome today is/are the match official(s), without whom, we wouldn’t be playing at all.
Everyone is asked to give them their full support and to have a chat with them in the bar after the match if they have something to discuss with them. The match officials are also here to enjoy their rugby and often travel many miles to ensure that we have a game each week. I’m sure they welcome your congratulations and will happily discuss any salient points over a beer or two, especially if you are paying!
Huddersfield Laund Hill RUFC is a community club and is striving to provide an opportunity for everyone in the community to enjoy their rugby in whatever capacity they can manage whether it be playing, volunteering, taking on a role of responsibility, bringing along their children or simply turning up to support our players.
Your club is always desperately short of volunteers so if you can spare an hour or two each week, why not get in touch with the club volunteer co-ordinator, Sean Barrett. He can be contacted by mailing email@example.com and give something back to the club which may well have provided you with years of enjoyment on or off the field
